The GRADnet Induction Day for new SEPnet PhD students was held on Wednesday, 23 October at ISH Venues, London W1.
Students heard about the GRADnet Training Programme for 2024-5 and had the opportunity to attend two out of three workshops.
Thank you to our speakers who ran the following workshops:
Publication and peer review: how to make it as an author and a reviewer: Kate Porter, Senior Publisher at IOP Publishing:

Science communication skills: Aarushi Singh, OPE Assistant and Priyanshi Purohit, University of Hertfordshire:

DISCnet: Introduction to Machine Learning using ATLAS Open Data: Dr Kate Shaw, Lecturer, Dr Thomas Stevenson, Research Fellow, Physics and Astronomy, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Caley Yardley, PhD student, University of Sussex:

Austin Wallis, 3rd Year PhD student at Southampton talked about his invaluable experience of doing a SEPnet placement at the UK Atomic Energy Authority and recommended doing a placement during one's PhD.

Feedback from the students was very positive: "great day, informative and a good opportunity to meet other students from the network!"
Hope to see you all at a future GRADnet event!
