Summer Placements

Each year, SEPnet arranges for undergraduates in their 2nd and 3rd year at SEPnet partner universities to carry out eight-week paid placements. The scheme not only provides a transfer of knowledge across the South East of England, it increases the employability of physics and maths students too.

Why do a Summer Placement?

Why do a Summer Placement?

A summer placement offers invaluable hands-on experience, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting, develop key skills, and enhance your employability. At SEPnet, our Summer Placement Scheme connects physics students (and now maths students) with leading employers in the South East, offering opportunities to work on exciting projects in either a commercial company or research institution.

A wide range of organisations are already involved offering placements in a variety of physics-related disciplines. Students have enjoyed placements with QinetiQ, the National Physical Laboratory, Symetrica, the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, the Met Office and many other employers.

Meet the students who have previously participated and discover how these placements have shaped their careers, provided industry insights, and expanded their professional networks.
