Through hands-on activities, discussions and job tasters, pupils discover the wide range of people and careers involved in science. The programme aims to challenge stereotypes about what a scientist looks like and does, while helping children recognise that they are already using scientific skills in their everyday lives.

The programme also supports teachers to build STEM careers into their wider teaching and develop children’s understanding of how science connects to the world around them.

The programme includes:

• Session 1 – Who are scientists?
  Pupils explore what science is and discover a range of scientists and STEM careers through interactive activities and card-matching games.

• Inter-session activity
  Working with their teacher, pupils research a STEM career and present what they discover through a creative cross-curricular activity.

• Session 2 – You are scientists!
  Pupils take part in a series of practical job tasters, experiencing different types of scientific work and putting their own scientific skills into practice.

By the end of the programme, pupils will have a broader understanding of who can be a scientist, the many different careers that use science, and how science connects with their own interests and experiences.

The programme also gives teachers ideas and resources for continuing conversations about STEM careers and science beyond the workshops.
