About Us
A snapshot of what we do here at SEPnet.
Our Vision & Aims
The purpose of SEPnet is to enhance the excellence of Physics in the South East by continuing to facilitate regional collaborations . SEPnet partners are united by a common goal of “Working together to broaden the horizons of physics and physicists".
Our aims are to:
Improve the skills training and employability of our students
Break down barriers to improve the accessibility of physics for everyone
Enhance the opportunities for research collaborations
Grow the size and diversity of our student population, ensuring students are well-supported through their studies
SEPnet is delivered through a number of core programmes:
Core Programmes
Milestones and Funding
The value and impact of SEPnet has been recognised at a national level with significant funding having been received from the Higher Education Funding Council for England both in 2008 (a £12.5m grant was awarded) and 2013 (a £2.75m grant was awarded) . This funding was awarded in order to support innovative research, graduate training, and outreach programmes. In 2018, SEPnet Phase III began, continuing these efforts for another five years and in 2023 SEPnet partners came together to confirm SEPnet Phase IV would launch in August 2023.
The purpose of SEPnet IV is to enhance the excellence of Physics in the South East by continuing to facilitate regional collaborations . SEPnet IV partners are united by a common goal of “Working together to broaden the horizons of physics and physicists".
The overarching objectives for SEPnet IV are to:
Improve the skills training and employability of our students
Ensure diversity and inclusion underpins all of SEPnet IV’s work
Break down barriers to improve the accessibility of physics for everyone.
Enhance the opportunities for research collaborations
Grow the size and diversity of our student population, ensuring students are well-supported through their studies
SEPnet IV will be delivered through the same core programmes as SEPnet III:
The Outreach and Public Engagement programme which strives to maintain the pipeline of physics students for the future. The programme plays a key role in SEPnet’s mission to remove barriers and make physics accessible to all, working with schools, local community groups and the wider public.
The Employer Engagement programme which seeks to embed employability skills within Undergraduate Physics courses, to develop stronger links between companies and students through placements networking events and talks from employers.
The GRADnet programme, representing the largest physics postgraduate school in England, delivering a wide range of high-quality training in advanced physics and employability/professional skills to PhD students.
